Another report from Bempton
Hi there Paul & Team
I would like to submit a report of a strange sighting up on Bempton footpath on the Cliff tops. My wife and I, went for a late evening/night walk up on the cliff footpath from Thornwick.
We left about 19.20 pm from Haven holiday caravan park. The date was Monday the 6th October 2025. The weather was clear with a full moon with light clouds and an occasional light breeze and quite mild temperature.
We walked the Cliff top path towards the direction of the RSPB Bempton. We had head torches and a hand torch., but didn't need them really because the light from the full moon was enough to light our way.
On the way we heard a sheep in distress and upon turning the LED hand torch on we could see a sheep had got it self tangled up in a wire fence in a field. So I jumped over the fence running along the Cliff top path and walked in to the field. Upon getting close to the sheep I could see it had gotten its head stuck in the wire mesh.
But when I went to help the sheep, it panicked and freed itself. So we then carried along the path towards RSBP Bempton.
By this time we had been walking for about an hour or just over. Just after Staple Newk we decided that the time was getting on so having to walk back to Thornwick , we thought we probably wouldn't go on much further. With the path being so close to the edge of the Cliff, I decided to take my torch and shine it over the edge of the cliff just to take a look. Upon looking over, my torch lit up a pair of bright yellow eyes looking straight up at me about 30 ft away 10ft down I guess.
My initial thought was it was a fox or something hunting on the cliff, but looking at the eyes I couldn't get pver how very round and bright the eyes were. I said to my wife, "Did you see those eyes?", but she wasn't looking at first. At that time I had turned the torch off. Then turned the torch back on again, then shone the light back down towards the eyes. I was thinking at that time they most probably would have moved but they hadn't. The thing with the eyes we both thought how wide they were apart: about 8 or 9 inches - much wider than a fox. But I couldn't make out any shape to the head or the body. The torch didn't give enough light to light the body up. All I could say the colour of the thing would have been very dark. While I was still looking at the eyes, the creature turned its head to the right, I could tell by the way the eyes moved then it was gone.
I spanned the torch around but never saw the thing again. Also we never heard any noise. It was completely silent, just like it vanished. We did walk on a little further but saw nothing more again. We didn't get any ill feelings or strangeness.
Then we had a pleasant walk back to the holiday park at Thornwick. I hope this information maybe some use to you, Paul. All the best Rob and Linda. Ps we did visit Dane's Dike and that place really does give off a strange presence. My phone number is ........ Just in case you need to chat.
Many Thanks, Rob
Paul: That is a most interesting report Rob. You will be aware that that is not the first sighting of eyes like that at Bempton!
