There are a few things to add to my sighting on 3rd September 2023. They are things I was not aware of when writing my original report. These only came to light when talking to Paul Sinclair and going over the events afterwards. The main sighting is unchanged. But there are a few other things before and after that adds to the strangeness of the sighting. So, I will go back to the start and fill in the new experiences.
On the 3rd September 2023, I met up with Paul and his grandson Noah at the Bempton RSPB carpark. The idea was to put on film a sighting I had back in September 2019. This was on the other side of Danes Dyke. I had been staying on the Wold Farm campsite. And while heading back there one night I watched a couple of torch lights making their way across Danes Dyke. I took a few photos, manly to get used to using my new Nikon P900. The photos looked a bit unusual, but as far as I was concerned it was just two people on the Dyke with torches. It would be another two years before Paul got a good look at these photos. Mainly because as far as I was concerned, there was nothing unusual about them. Paul asked if I would go on the record with what I had seen, which brings us but to 2023. I should add here that I had met with Paul several times before this. It is important the say this with what happens later.
As the three of us made our way along the coast path to Dynes Dyke, we were talking about everyday things. Paul’s idea was to film on the Dyke and I would tell him about the lights I had taken photos of. This was a Sunday night and Paul had said he had to get Noah back as he had school the next day. As we got close to the Dyke, I pointed out that we could walk to the next field along so that we could then film where I was standing previously. As it was only a fields distance away, Paul was all for it. This could be where the weird stuff starts. It may have nothing to do with what was to happen latter, but I am adding it here in case it does have a connection, and I am trying to add everything. At this time, we don’t know what is important to explaining what is happening with this phenomenon.
We had just walked past the Dyke on the coast path and were about a third of the way along the field. Paul stopped and asked me if I could smell anything. I said no, and walked back to where he was, as he was slightly behind me, then a bit farther back behind him. But I still couldn’t smell anything unusual. Paul said it smelled of something decaying. We both agreed it could be a small dead animal. We continued up to the stile that we could go over to enter the field that led to Wold Farm campsite. I will describe the field as it is where I watched the object later.
It has a roughly triangular shape, and the path we where on is the shortest side. Towards the half way mark of this path is a fenced off area, this is around a pool/pond. This path is parallel to Danes Dyke, with a field in between. The other two sides of the field are made up of the coast path along one side, while the other is the next field up towards Wold Farm. The main part of the field slopes away, so cannot be seen when standing on Danes Dyke. The part we were on has a slope going towards the Dyke. This and the fenced of area around the pool/pond and the stile is all that can be seen when on the Dyke. Below are a couple of the photos taken September 2019 looking at Danes Dyke: -
Standing in this field, Paul was a bit upset because he had planned to film me with Danes Dyke behind me, talking about the lights. But as the sun was low above Danes Dyke it wasn’t possible. I suggested that we stand by the fenced off pool area, where I had taken some of the photos. With the cliffs behind me and Danes Dyke to my right.
After filming, we packed up and started back. Paul then asked if I minded doing a bit of filming on the Dyke itself. I had no objections. Walking back along the coast path towards the Dyke, at the same spot as earlier, Paul could smell the same smell. Again, neither Noah or I could smell it. It is probably nothing, but I am adding it just in case it is part of what was later to happen.
After we had finished filming on the Dyke, Paul packed all his filming equipment away. He then asked me if I minded if he walked back along the coast path and filmed a quick shorty for his YouTube channel. He asked if I wanted to be a part of it, I said I would give it a miss, but was more than happy to stand with the equipment.
Paul and Noah, had a walk for around ten minutes. They were both in view the whole time. As they got back to the base of the Dyke, I could hear Paul finishing up on his GoPro. This is where I realised the short film was about me and the sighting, I had just related to him, as he was rounding up, he then turned the camera around to film me. Saying “there is the man himself”. It is worth mentioning here, that Paul cannot remember doing this short film. Hopefully it will turn up at a later date, mainly because it was around this time, I noticed a man and woman walking down the coast path coming from the direction of the field we were in. There was nothing unusual about this pair, and I am not saying they were anything other then a couple out for an early evening walk. But they are important to what was to happen later.
Paul and Noah came back up the Dyke. Noah started to play on the slope of the Dyke, whilst Paul and I stood on the top. Paul was facing the RAF base watching the setting sun, which was close to the horizon. It was too bright for me, so I was facing towards the Flamborough lighthouse. Which was also the direction of the field we had just been in.
We are now only seconds away from my sighting. I believe at this time both me and Paul were in a mild trance state. This is just my opinion. The sky was clear, the sun was shining and it was very relaxing. Paul was standing to my right and slightly in front. So he was in my view. As Paul started talking to me, we both turned to face each other. I cannot remember what we said to each other, but we were both talking very softly. Not at the normal volume we had been all evening. As he was talking, I noticed a movement to my left. It was a rapid movement, going backward and forward. (It was to be a full year before Paul and me was back in the same positions. This was to film me talking about what had I had seen. It was at this time that I realised that the movement was high in the sky.) But the image I had in my mind was of a young boy and girl running, chasing each other backwards and forwards by the pond in the field we had just been in. Behind them was a man and woman. So, there was no need to look. In fact, there was a strong impression for me not to look at them.
As Paul finished talking, we both turned to face the way we had been looking. He was facing the setting sun over the RAF base. I was facing the opposite direction looking towards Fambrough lighthouse. In the field we were just in, was an unusual object travelling across it, just to the left of the fenced off pond. The object was like a square but turned so it was on one of its corners. There were two pieces of it missing. The first was the lower corner was missing so that it had a small flat bottom. The other piece missing was the front of the object. I am saying the front because it was the direction it was traveling in. It was almost like a quarter of the object was removed, but not quite. (See illustration below.)
The colour was dark brown with darker lines/stripes down the length of the object. The top corner was made up of a lighter coloured square. The whole thing also looked two-dimensional and very unreal. The object looked like it was superimposed on the field it was traveling along. It looked very cartoonish and 2 dimensional. The sketch isn’t quite right, but it’s the best I can do.
The most unusual thing was, that my mind was telling me that it was still two kids and two adults. The only thing that broke that image was it was traveling to fast. So, it was replaced with the image of a man in shorts running along the path. My mind was still struggling with the object I was watching and what my mind was telling me that it was. I thought, it can’t be a jogger, as the object was travelling smoothly across the field. It was more like it was gliding. There was no up/down movement you get with someone running/jogging.
So, the next image in my mind was a quad pedal bike. The trouble is I would have been able to see the three-dimensional shape. The object I was looking at was flat, two-dimensional. Below is a photo of what my mind was trying to tell me it was. As you can see, it is clearly three dimensional.
For some reason I thought about a pair of binoculars I was going to bring with me but forgot. As I thought that, I had a great feeling of sadness come over me, as I thought that I would never know what it was. The feeling was so great that it felt like my whole body sank inwards. The reasoning being that with the binoculars I would have been able to workout what the object was. Remember, up until now, I was aware of where the object was. It was moving along the same path me, Paul and Noah had just walked along.
As it got to the wire fence with the stile, that I should add was slightly over grown with long grass, (see photo), the object did not slow down, but travelled straight into it and disappeared. My mind was telling me it was a bush or tree it was going behind. For some reason I was thinking that it was a lot further away and was not sure where it was.
It was at this point that I remembered that Paul was standing beside me, also that I had my Nikon P900 around my neck. As I took hold of the camera I said to Paul “I think we have something”, I have no idea why I used those words. Paul slowly turned to face me, I was in mild shock with what I had just seen in bright daylight. But the look on Paul’s face was a greater shock, the best way to describe it was the ear-to-ear smile from the horror film Smile. It was a very unnatural look, with no humour in the eyes. He just looked passed me to my left and the bottom of Danes Dyke and said “it’s just them two people walking past”, then turned back to look towards the RAF base. For anyone who has not seen the film Smile. The photo below is from the film.
I was nearly speechless at this time, and said “no Paul, something went across that field and disappeared behind that bush or tree”. At this point I did not remember that it was the field we had been in! I did not know that the bush/tree was the embankment we had just crossed! So, Paul turned towards where I was looking, the big smile was still there but wasn’t as big as the first time. The words he used were “they do that sometimes”, and again, started to turn away. I was saying something like, “no it was unreal. It should not have been there”.
Paul turned to face me, the smile had now gone. But he did have a look, that to me looked like he was confused. He asked me to describe the object, but I was even more confused and told him the object was too difficult to describe, as you can tell from me trying to describe it above, also, now, this is two years after the sighting. I said that I would be able to draw it when I had some paper and Paul asked me if I would go on camera and tell what I had just seen. I said no, mainly because I was having trouble talking, and I couldn’t describe the object and didn’t want to look stupid on film. I wish I had now, as it would have captured how confused I was.
There was a number of things that was still happening. The main one is, when the object disappeared, I no longer knew where the object had been! The bush/tree the object went behind seemed to be much further away. You will remember, all the way though the sighting I knew exactly where it was, one field away. I took a photo before leaving Danes Dyke. I’m glad I did. I have included the photo below. You can see how bright it still is. You can also see it is not a tree or bush. But for some reason I did not see or recognise the embankment for what it was. Even as I took the photo, I did not want to look at it for some reason. You can clearly see it was the embankment.
The other interesting thing before we left and before I took the photo, I noticed the two people walking back up the path towards where the object disappeared. For some reason I did not want to look at them. It seemed that the same thoughts I was having whilst looking at the object, was now stopping me from looking at this couple. I will say this again, I believe they were ordinary people just out for a walk and not part of what I had seen. But I will add that for some reason I was frightened to look at them. When I did look at them, I had to move my eyes off them straight away.
Paul did ask me how I felt, was I frightened. I said no, but it’s only when writing this that I realized I was. I was frightened to look at the people and look at the tree/bush. Even when I took the photo of the tree/bush, I must have seen it was the embankment. But for some reason refused to see it for what it was. I did not want to walk back there. I should have talked to the two people, to see if they had seen anything. But as I said I did not want to look at them, let alone talk to them. So, my answer to Paul was about seeing the object itself. There was no fear at that time, only from after the object had gone. And even then, it’s only recently that I realise that it was fear I was feeling.
Below are a couple of Google earth photos of the area.
The walk back to the carpark was mainly silent. Paul did ask again if I would go on camera, but I was still too confused. It was dark as we got back to the carpark, and although Paul hadn’t mentioned that he had to get Noah back, I was aware that it was much later than Paul had intended.
Paul and Noah were in the car and driving out before I got to my car. I realised that I hadn’t done a drawing of the object for Paul. Like an idiot I ran after his car waving my arms, but he was too far away. I was feeling a bit exposed being in the dark carpark by myself, but I still sat in the car and did a drawing of the thing I had seen. The drawing was quick and simple and not quite right, but I wanted to get out of there. I drove back to the Havern Caravan park, and then walked up to the pub. I thought it would be a good idea to write down what happened. The only paper I had was a small cardboard box, which I opened up and wrote down what I could. I still have that written account.
I didn’t sleep well that night. The following morning, I had some breakfast and had a look at the photos to find out where the tree/bush was, so I could go and have a look at it. I looked through the photos twice without seeing it. I knew the photos I had taken earlier and what I had taken after. So, I looked again. I was shocked to discover the tree/bush was the tall grass on the embankment around the stile on the path.
As I said, while watching the object I knew where it was. But as it disappeared, for some reason, I forgot where it was and became confused.
I grabbed some snacks and water and walked up to Danes Dyke from the caravan. It was a bright sunny day and I spent a few hours sitting on the Dyke trying to get my head around what had happened. I took a lot of photos including some of a couple walking along the coast path. These are not the same couple from the night before; they are just for a size comparison for the object I had seen.
I know I had to talk to Paul. But when I saw him later that evening, I was too embarrassed, and took a different path back to my car. As I still had several days in the area, I thought there was plenty of time to meet up. But the weather took a turn for the worse and a thick fog covered Flamborough coast and the cliffs for the rest of the week. The fog only cleared on the Saturday morning when I was due to head back home. I spent a couple of hours on Danes Dyke before heading home.
After spending weeks of sleepless nights, I knew I had to go back to Flamborough and talk to Paul. Just to get it out of my system. So, four weeks after my sighting I was back. The weather was bad so could not meet up on Danes Dyke where I had seen the object. We needed somewhere dry, so ended up on the other end of Danes Dyke next to the café.
As Paul filmed me going over the sighting, we started to discover that there was more to the sighting. When I got to the part where Paul said it was just two people on the path, he stopped me. As he could not recall seeing or saying anything about the couple. This just added to my feeling that something else had happened. I don’t know what, but just a strong feeling that something was missing.
I said to Paul that we should stop recording and get an independent investigator to talk to both of us independently. I said this so we didn’t contaminate each other’s story, and find out if there was anything else that we were missing. In regards to the two people, when Paul asked Noah, he also remembers seeing them. Which was a great relief for me. It means that they were there and not a figment of my imagination.
It was to be another 11 months before I saw Paul again. We met up on Danes Dyke to go over what I had seen and for him to get it on film. As we were standing in the same positions and Paul was setting up the camera, I noticed another thing that could only have been noticed with us re-enacting the sighting. If you remember, it started with me seeing a back and forward movement out of the corner of my eye. Where my mind told me not to look because it was only two children running back and forth. I could now see that this movement was high in the sky and much further to the left of the pond.
I am writing this on November 17 2025. And little bits of this sighting are still raising its head. After the sighting I was sitting in the pub and trying to get my head around what I had seen. The only piece of paper I had on me was a small box. So, I opened it up and wrote down what I had seen. I haven’t looked at this over the last two years. After writing this update, I got it out to have a look at it. Just to see what I had written down an hour or so after the event. (See photo below.)
I was shocked to see that I had written down that the object had travelled along the path that me and Paul had just walked along. You will remember that at the start of the sighting, I knew where the object was, but by the end I didn’t know where it was. So, this means that while watching the object I knew where it was. At the end of the sighting I didn’t know where it was. Two hours later I knew where it was while writing it down, but when I woke up the next morning I didn’t know. It was a shock to me when I looked at the photo and realized where it was.
At this point, I will jump back to my sighting of the two lights from September 2019. As far as I am concerned, they were two people with torches walking along the Dyke. The photos appear to show something else. After this more recent sighting and the way I was thinking while watching it, who knows. Was I just given the thought it was just two people? This is a rabbit hole I’m not going down! I will stick with what I saw, two people.
Below is a layout of the view I had while looking at the object. I don’t think there is anymore to add to this sighting. But for some reason I think there is something Paul, Noah or me are missing. I have thought about getting hypnotized. If I do and something new turns up, I will update this.
